Kevin McQuillan - Founder & General Partner

Kevin is a cofounder of Focus Ventures and General Partner of Focus Opportunity Fund.  He was most recently ranked 46th on Forbes Magazine’s 2011 Midas List as a top technology investor.  Kevin was also recently highlighted on AlwaysOn’s VC 100 List and Power Players West list.  Additionally, Kevin is featured in Venture Capitalists At Work, a book that highlights how VCs identify and build billion dollar businesses.

Kevin has spent over thirty years focusing on investments in the software, storage, internet and communication markets.  He has led Focus Ventures’ investments in Active Software (WebMethods), Alteon Websystems (Nortel), Aruba Networks, Commerce One, Com21, Copper Mountain, Financial Engines, Pixelworks, Ruckus Wireless, Vina and Virtusa, all of which became public companies.  Some notable acquisitions include: Sensity Systems (Verizon), Paydiant (PayPal), GetThere (Sabre), Centrality (SiRF Technology), KACE Networks (Dell) and DATAllegro (Microsoft).

Kevin initially became involved in the investment industry as a Director of Investments for Equitec Financial Group. From 1986 to 1994, Kevin was a General Partner at Dominion Ventures.  Kevin then joined Comdisco Ventures as a Managing Director prior to cofounding Focus Ventures.  Some notable pre-Focus investments include Capstone, Cirrus Logic, Efficient Networks (Siemens), Infinera, Tivoli Systems (IBM), Volterra and Xylan (Alcatel).

Kevin has received a MBA, JD and BBA. Kevin is also a member of the Investment Committee for Western Michigan University, and an Advisor to the Silicon Valley Executive Network.
